As the owner of Sandy Paws Animal Hospital, I have realized my lifelong dream to bring family-oriented care to clients and animals, supporting my mission of compassionate dedicated healthcare to my community. My every thought was to help those who could not help themselves. Much to the dismay of my family, there has been a never-ending stream of helpless wild animals being treated in our home since I was five years old.

Growing up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Dr Sands chose to attend the University of Florida.  This began a long adventure of self-discovery and continued enforcement of my passion to be a steward of medicine for all animals.  I earned a bachelor’s degree in animal science with a minor in Chemistry in 1997 followed by a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2003. I am very proud to be a Florida Gator. “Go Gators? Get up and Go!” However, I will always be a faithful Green Bay Packer fan.

Her professional passions include surgery, critical care, senior health care and dentistry. Outside of work she enjoys spending hours playing pickleball, hiking, going to the beach and reading.  She also avidly cheers for her son Reece while he runs track. (Do not sit to close, this usually timid voiced lady gets loud)

She has seven furry children at home. Ying is an outgoing 18-year-old calico that she adopted in Virginia. Luke, Leia and Chewie (the Star Wars Pack) are the younger cats in the house.  Minnie, a dachshund mix, Geo, a black lab, and her Florida brown bear (aka. Newfie) Goku rounds out the crew.

There is never a dull moment in our house generously accepted by my supportive husband Steve.  We stay active in the community by participating in the Spartan races, Rive Run and local 5 k races when we can. The team at the clinic, Sandy Paws Fitness, participates in the Terrain Races.

I do not just promote good healthcare within the clinic but within my own life.  Thank you to the Orange Park Community and Police Department for making my clinic a successful resource for the excellent care of all our precious animals.  Let’s continue to make our lives and the lives of our animals the best they can be!

Dr. Wright grew up mostly in east central Illinois and has loved animals since she was young. Her lifelong dream was to become a veterinarian and she loves living her dream now! She graduated from Oklahoma State University and practiced large and small animal medicine in Oklahoma, then small animal medicine in Illinois, before recently getting married and moving to Florida. She is excited to live and practice in Florida.

She enjoys helping people through her love of animals by providing quality care and good quality of life to all furry household family members. Her professional interests include educating clients and enabling them to care for their furry family members in the best way possible and providing the best care possible for all pets.

Dr. Wright and her husband (Sam) have one dog, Tryp. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her husband, family and friends, Tryp, running, and traveling.
